Company History: Canadian Industries Ltd. was formed in 6/1929 through the merger of the Canadian Salt Co. Ltd. (CSXX), Grasselli Chemical Co. Ltd. (Grasselli), Mond Nickel Co. (MNX) and Canadian Explosives Ltd. (CEL) fleets, with offices in Toronto, ON and Montreal, PQ. Name was changed to Canadian Industries (1954) Ltd. in 10/1954. By mid-1956 the CILX fleet and reporting mark were transferred to Products Tank Line of Canada, Ltd. (Union Tank Car), with all remaining equipment quickly renumbered to UTLX numbers and the reporting mark eliminated in 1/1958.

Successor/Parent History: Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) was a British chemical company and was, for much of its history, the largest manufacturer in Britain. It was formed by the merger of leading British chemical companies in 1926. Its headquarters were at Millbank in London, and it was a constituent of the FT 30 and later the FTSE 100 indices.
ICI made paints and speciality products, including explosives, food ingredients, speciality polymers, electronic materials, fragrances and flavourings. It was acquired by AkzoNobel in 2008, who immediately sold parts of ICI to Henkel, and integrated ICI's remaining operations within its existing organisation.
