Company History: The BC&M ran north from Concord, New Hampshire through Tilton, Plymouth, and Littleton to Wing Road where the line split for Groveton Junction and a connection with the Grand Trunk to the north and Fabyans to the east. In 1884, the company was leased to the Boston & Lowell and became their Northern Division. Just three years later Boston & Maine leased the Boston & Lowell and assumed the lease of the BC&M. This arrangement lasted just 2 years before the lease of the Boston Concord & Montreal was canceled and the BC&M merged with the Concord Railroad to form the Concord & Montreal Railroad in 1889. Six years later, B&M bought the Concord & Montreal.
Successor/Parent History: The C&M was the result of the 1889 merger of the Boston Concord & Montreal Railroad and the Concord Railroad. In 1884, the BC&M (which ran between Concord and Woodsville, New Hampshire) had been leased by the Boston & Lowell Railroad and the B&L had been leased by the Boston & Maine since 1887. So at the time of the merger, the BC&M was essentially a division of the B&M that was amputated and joined with the Concord Railroad. The C&M was independent for six years before being purchased by Boston & Maine in 1895.
