Company History: Shikoku Railway Company (四国旅客鉄道株式会社? Shikoku Ryokaku Tetsudō Kabushiki-gaisha), commonly known as JR Shikoku (JR四国? Jei-āru Shikoku), is one of the constituent companies of Japan Railways Group (JR Group). It operates intercity rail services in the four prefectures on the island of Shikoku in Japan. Brief History:

Although legend has it that Japan was founded in 660BC, archaeologists agree that settlement in the Japanese archpelago dates back as far as 100,000 years. The Jomon Period (8000-c.300BC) is the earliest that has been studied. It is named after the 'jomon' or cord-marked pattern style of pottery of the period.
