Transportation Company - PATrain - Railroad

Company History: PATrain was launched in 1975 by the Port Authority of Allegheny County to take over the operation of Baltimore & Ohio’s commuter train operations from Versailles through McKeesport to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Much of the route was on trackage rights on Pittsburgh & Lake Erie (although P&LE’s commuter operation to Beaver Falls was not included.) The PATrain fleet included two F7A’s and ten former C&O coaches. Ridership under PATrain did outperform when compared to B&O’s operation but with considerably higher losses. They ran eight round trips during the week and five on Saturdays. They even named the trains: Early Bird, Golden Triangle, McKeesporter, Mid Day, Mon Valley, Pittsburgher, Shopper, and the Youghiogheny. Business peaked in 1981 followed by a long downward slide. PATrain service was discontinued in 1989.
