Company History: The OCTR began operation in 1977 as the designated freight hauler on the SEPTA owned former-Pennsylvania Railroad Octoraro Branch between Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania and Sylmar, Maryland. They then leased a former Reading branch from Elsmere Junction in the Wilmington, Delaware area to South Modena, Pennsylvania. The two lines connected at Chadds Ford. Traffic included feed, lumber, mushroom composting material, scrap and steel. OCTR operated at various times an S2, two RS-2’s; three RS-3’s, two GP7’s, a U30B and an SW1. OCTR closed their doors in 1994 and operation of the line was taken over by Delaware Valley Railway.
