History:
The 2005 Obverse of the the Nickel coin was inspired by a 1789 marble bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon. The designer was Joe Fitzgerald and the design was rendered into engraving form by minnt sculptor Don Everhart. The inscription, "Liberty" is in the style of Jefferson's own handwriting. This design was only used for one year before being replaced by the "Monticello" Nickel.
