Transportation Company - Mare Island - Railroad

Company History: MIRS was established as a subsidiary of the Tri City & Olympia Railroad in 2011 to take over operations on the industrial trackage on Mare Island in San Pablo Bay in the city of Vallejo, California from the previous operator, San Francisco Bay Railroad. The island had once been home to the Mare Island Naval Complex but the shipyard was closed in 1995 and the property gradually redeveloped. The current developer is said by some to be less than enthusiastic about encouraging industrial development that would require rail service. At the end of 2012, the developer refused to renew the contract with MIRS, effectively ending rail service to the few remaining customers on the island.
