Transportation Company - Englewood - Railroad

Company History: This company was launched in 2006 when Western Forest Products bought this logging and railroad operation from Canfor. It’s full name was really Englewood Railway of Western Forest Products. The 56 mile line ran from Vernon Lake to Woss, Nimpkish Lake and finally Beaver Cove all on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Many of the bridges on the line are planked so the company’s logging trucks can also use them. Motive power was provided by four dynamic brake equipped SW1200s, three of which had been re-engined with Cat prime movers. Single locomotives worked the Vernon, Maquilla and Woss areas while the Beaver Cove trains were double headed due to the heavy grade. Two to three trains per day, up to 45 log-laden cars, were run on the railroad. There were about 400 log spines and flats plus a few home-built cabooses in the fleet.

In 2017, a cut of 11 log cars got away from a loading crew, rolled downhill and struck an MOW crew, killing three. A few months later, Western Forest Products announced they were closing the railroad.
