Transportation Company - Eastern Idaho - Railroad

Company History: The EIRR opened in 1993 when the Watco shortline group took over operations on two groups of former Union Pacific lines in Idaho. The southern group runs from Pocatello west to Minidoka (that portion is on UP trackage rights) then southwest to Rupert. Here the line splits into two parallel routes headed west. One runs as far as Wendell and the other as far as Buhl. The Buhl line also has two short branches. The Northern group also features two parallel routes running from the greater Idaho Falls area northwest to Newdale on one line and Ashton on the other. The two connect at Lincoln. There are three short branchlines on this group. In total, EIRR runs about 270 miles of railroad (about the same length as Pittsburgh & Lake Erie.) In a typical week, they move about 670 cars. At last count Eastern Idaho had 20 locomotives in their fleet, all EMD 2nd generation hood units, of PRR, WP, Reading, Southern, C&O, B&O and EL heritage.
