History: Between 1942 and 1944, six-axle heavy-duty flat wagons with a fish-belly-like wagon bridge were built for the transportation of tanks weighing up to 80 tons. These were referred to by the DRG as SSyms Köln.
After the Second World War, over 300 cars were transferred to the DB and were referred to as SSym 46. They serve primarily for the transportation of slabs and steel coils. For many years there simply was no alternative for transportation of heavy goods. The number in use remained almost constant until 1983. Only with the appearance of the Samms 709 and Samms 710 were these cars eventually phased out.
