Coos Bay

Company History: In 2007, Central Oregon & Pacific closed their Coos Bay Branch (Eugene to Denebo, Oregon) after it was discovered that several tunnels on the line had badly deteriorated and would require millions of dollars for repairs. The Port of Coos Bay sued CORP because they failed to give 180 days notice for the shut down. The STB ordered CORP to sell the line to the Port of Coos Bay for $16.6 million. With that, Coos Bay Rail Link was born. After considerable repair work and occasional operation, the full 134 mile line re-opened for business in 2013. As traffic has increased, more locomotives were acquired. As of this writing, the roster includes a GP9, an SW1200, a GP30, three GP30u’s, four GP38’s, a GP38M and a GP40-2.
