Company History: BRAN began service in 1978 to take over the property of the bankrupt South Omaha Terminal Railway, an Omaha, Nebraska terminal railroad with 17 miles of track. In 1981, they established Brandon Corporation–West to take over an ex-Rock Island line between Manhattan and Clifton, Kansas. That operation lasted less than a year. Brandon’s affiliation with Rail Car America and their predecessors/successors permitted the leasing firm to use Brandon’s reporting marks “BRAN” on thousands of freight cars in their lease fleet. Brandon is one of a very few railroads to not have "Railroad" or "Railway" in their proper name. The most famous example of this is Reading Company.
