Company History: This line was launched in late 1972 as spinoff of Boston & Maine. They began with a 12 mile line linking Sanbornville and Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. This was a brave effort to save freight service to the last two customers on the line and operate tourist trains in the regulated era. In 1976, Wolfeboro also became the designated operator of a 78 mile line between Concord and Lincoln, New Hampshire that had been abandoned by Boston & Maine. However sufficient traffic did not materialize and MOW costs were escalating. After less than a year, Wolfeboro bowed out as operator on the Concord-Lincoln line. Meanwhile the situation was deteriorating on the Sanbornville-Wolfeboro line. In 1979, no freight was shipped and the tourist trains were all canceled. Not a wheel turned. The line was sold in 1980 and the tourist trains resumed but the momentum wasn't there. In 1986, abandonment was approved.
