Company History: The Union Ice Company came into being in 1882 as an amalgamation of several companies. Ice was harvested from frozen ponds and delivered to homes and commercial establishments by wagon in the early days. By 1941 Union Ice operated 70 plants and owned 963 trucks. Making finely crushed ice and blowing it into train cars helped keep foods fresh for rail transport. On March 1, 2007 Arctic Glacier Inc. had acquired the assets and operations of The Union Ice Company.
