- 1882 Kintaro Hattori opens the K. Hattori Watch and Clock Shop in Tokyo
- 1892 Hattori partners with Tsuruhiko Yoshikawa to create the Seikosha watch factory.
- 1895 Seiko releases its first pocket watch, the "Time Keeper"
- 1913 Seiko introduces its first wrist watch, the "Laurel"
- 1923 Earthquake destroys the Seikosha factory, but Hattori rebuilds
- 1924 Seiko releases the first watch labeled "Seiko"
- 1956 Seiko releases the "Marvel", its first fully "in-house" watch. The Marvel features Seiko's Diashock mechanism for shock absorption.
- 1960 Seiko releases the "Grand Seiko" with the new Caliber 3180 movement.
- 1964 Seiko releases the "Crown Chronograph" , Japan's first COSC certified movement.
