Elk River

Company History: The ELKR began in 1989 as a spin-off from CSX to operate a 61 mile former B&O route between Gilmer and Gassaway, West Virginia. After 10 years of operation, the mines closed and traffic dwindled to nothing but they have been making some money since then performing freight car repair and storing freight cars. The all-time diesel roster includes a pair of GP9’s (ex-N&W with dual control stands,) two GP10’s (ex-Illinois Central) and a GP8 (originally built as a GP7 for Wabash.)
