Transportation Company - Belfast & Moosehead Lake - Railroad

Company History: This 33 mile line between Burnham Junction and Belfast, Maine was completed in 1870 and immediately leased by Maine Central (becoming MEC’s Belfast Branch.) At the beginning of 1926, MEC canceled the lease and Belfast & Moosehead Lake began to operate under their own flag. In 1988, B&ML added summertime tourist trains to the schedule. The City of Belfast who owned most of the stock in the line, sold their stake to private owners in 1991. The new owners ran the line until 2007 when it was taken over by a non-profit who operate only tourist trains in the warmer months.
