Transportation Company - Carbon County - Railroad

Company History: The CBC was built in 1923 by Utah Coal & Coke Company (much later, part of US Steel) to link a large coal mine to Rio Grande’s Sunnyside Branch in Utah, about 5 miles away. For at least the first decade, the CBC was operated as part of the Rio Grande under contract. In 1946, the CBC was extended 6 miles to reach the Geneva Mine. In the diesel era, a daily train of up to 45 cars would run up to the mine, load and return. The 70 ton offset side hoppers in the CBC fleet were hand-me-downs from US Steel sibling Bessemer & Lake Erie. The mine and railroad both closed in 1982.

Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
