Company History: The TASD opened in the summer of 1928 and operates 75 miles of line around the port of Mobile, Alabama and the surrounding communities of Chickasaw and Theodore. Back in the day they connected with Southern, Louisville & Nashville, Alabama Tennessee & Northern (later part of Frisco) and Gulf Mobile & Ohio. Today, they have 25 customers and move scrap metal, asphalt, chemicals, lumber, biodiesel, ethanol, chlorine, alkalides, pipe, paper, coal, coke, pig iron, containers, grain, seed, fertilizer, cement and rail cars for repair. A fleet of eight MP15DC’s have operated the line for many years but a new generation of genset locomotives are starting to arrive on the property.
