Arts and Crafts Furniture Database

Stickley, Roycroft, etc.

American Arts & Crafts Furniture is comprised of the work of a group of craftsman furniture makers who operated from the end of the 19th Century through the early part of the 20th Century. The work was inspired by the European Arts & Crafts movement and specifically the work of William Morris. The American manufacturers, however, took the style into a newer, more modern and streamlined direction than their European counterparts. This distinctive American element is particularly true in the later work from L&JG Stickley. The movement was also closely related to the "Prairie School" of architecture created by Frank Lloyd Wright.
